How to care your silk scarf?

Enjoy this fabric. Silk is natural fiber similar to human hair and does require special care to stay looking good.
By knowing the right way to clean, dry, press, and store silk, you can keep your silk scarf in top condition for years.

Washing
1.        Hand Wash in Cool Water;
2.        Only use mild detergents;
3.        NEVER BLEACH or use bleaching agents;
4.        Wash each scarf separately as dyes may bleed;
5.        Handle silk scarves gently. Don't wring or twist the scarf because silk is weaker when wet;
Drying
1.       Roll the silk scarf into a bath towel and gently press the water out. Never wring silk.
2.       When most of the water is out, finer silk should be hung up to dry.
3.       Use a padded or plastic hanger to distribute the weight of the wet scarf.
4.       Air dry the scarf away from sunlight until damp dry.
1.       Silk should be pressed while still damp, not when completely dry.
2.       While damp, press the silk item from the back side with a dry iron at a warm (silk) setting.
3.       A steam iron at a low setting may be used, being sure the iron doesn't spit, which would cause water spots.
4.       When ironing the fabric dry, use a press cloth on the right side of the scarf.

Washing
1.       Hand Wash in Cool Water;
2.       Use a mild soap and cool water. Strong alkaline detergents weaken silk;
3.       Don't use presoak products or chlorine bleach; both will damage silk;
4.       Wash each scarf separately and do not wash with non delicate garments;
5.       Handle silk scarf gently. Don't wring or twist the scarf because silk is weaker when wet;
6.       Silk is absorbent so it dyes easily, but some dye colors tend to bleed and fade in water Red, green, blue
and purple dyes are especially prone to problems.
Drying
1.       Roll the silk scarf into a bath towel and gently press the water out. Never wring silk.
2.       When most of the water is out, finer silk should be hung up to dry;
3.       Use a padded or plastic hanger to distribute the weight of the wet scarf;
4.       Air dry the scarf away from sunlight until damp dry;
5.       Never use a machine dryer to dry any silk as the friction and lack of humidity can damage the fabric;
6.       Keep the scarf away from heat sources or direct sunlight, both of them can turn silk yellow.
Pressing
1.       Silk should be pressed while still damp, not when completely dry.
2.       While damp, press the silk item from the back side with a dry iron at a warm (silk) setting on a cotton-covered
ironing board;
3.       A steam iron at a low setting may be used, being sure the iron doesn't spit, which would cause water spots.
4.       If ironing the fabric dry, use a press cloth on the right side of the scarf.
5.       Because many silk scarves are hand sewn, take care not to apply pressure to the seams of the scarf.
Dry clean
1.       If you spill something on your silk scarf, don't put water on the spotted area. Water may set the stain or cause
a permanent ring. Take the scarf -even a washable silk scarf- to a dry cleaner as soon as possible.
2.       Tell the cleaner what you spilled, where the stain is and how long it has been there.
3.       Silk is absorbent so it dyes easily, but some dye colors tend to bleed and during stain removal procedures
-according to dry cleaners- red, green, blue and purple dyes are especially prone to problems.
Storage
1.        Silk may be considered a luxury, but caring for it properly doesn’t cost much in terms of either money or time.
2.        Gentle washing, drying away from a heat source, and storage in material that provides air circulation is all silk
really needs to stay looking good.
3.        For long-term storage, keep silk in a cotton pillowcase or other material that can breathe. Avoid plastic, which
traps moisture and can cause yellowing and mildew.
4.        Silk, like other natural fibers, is a favorite with moths, so store cedar chips or balls with your silk to keep the bugs away.
5.        Care for your silk scarf well and they’ll keep their original softness and sheen for years.
Tips before wearing
1.       Silk is a strong fiber but can be weakened by perspiration, deodorants and sunlight.
2.       Use care in dressing and grooming to avoid staining silk scarf. Silk fabric is easily damaged by alcohol-based
products such as hair spray and perfumes, and chemical products such as nail polish remover.
3.       Apply perfume and hair spray before putting on a silk scarf as the mist from such products may cause stains.
